TRAI invites firms to be part of paid public Wi-Fi interface

Telecom Regulator, TRAI, for the welfare of the public invites firms to set up public Wi-Fi hotspots on a pilot basis to make available at a starting price of Rs.2.

It is of known fact that technological innovations are far beyond splitting our lives into a fast, simple and convenient modules and now the innovations are taking up upgraded shapes to have our babies. TRAI tries to register its foot prints national wide on inviting interests from firms to establish pilot basis public Wi-Fi hotspots in line of yesteryears PCO’s where once public used to make public calls on paid basis.

Using this idea behind the screen, “TRAI invites all interested enterprises to share the featured feather of its cap to set up PDO’s – Public Data Offices in the form of pay-as-you-go formula where the consumption made available from low denominations ranging from Rs 2 to Rs 20, etc” stated by TRAI in a statement.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in March has tune in an action plan for providing public Wi-Fi services at a cheaper price by lowering import duty of Wi-Fi equipment and introducing the concept of “PDO” and “aggregators”.

TRAI stated that in India, “access to data is a flash in the pan due to deficient and defective coverage of fiber or telecom services and restrictive cellular data prices. This is why the Public Wi-Fi hotspots is bright as a button in the delivery of broadband to users and allows offloading telecom networks to ease off congestion, added public Wi-Fi hotspots would become a cog with internet innovations when internet of things (IoT) devices comes online”

Under this pilot project, TRAI ticks an open system Wi-Fi access network interface with which any entity whether be it a company, industry, non-profits, proprietorship, societies or etc. could set up paid public Wi-Fi access points.

TRAI made it clear that PDO purchase, operating and experience should be simple, low touch and maintenance free for a small sized entrepreneur. The regulatory body had fixed July 25th as the last date for the entities to be on the same wavelength.
